Crew: background agents

Updated October 23, 2026

Crew runs longer jobs in the background. Describe what you want, and Crew plans it, shows you the plan, and executes the steps.

How a run works

  1. You describe the job.
  2. Crew produces a plan with steps and a summary, and lists its assumptions and questions.
  3. You approve the plan. Sensitive steps ask for approval again before they run.
  4. Crew executes each step, retrying a few times if one fails, and records the result.
  5. Each result is checked by re-reading it from your workspace, so Crew reports a step as verified only when it really exists.

What Crew can do

Research the web, create goals and tasks, generate a set of tasks, update task or goal status, store memories and send notifications.

Status and audit

A run can be queued, running, needing approval, completed, failed, paused or cancelled. Every action is written to an audit trail you can read, and you can pause, resume, retry or cancel a run.

Routines

Routines let Crew repeat a job on a schedule.
